Convention

Today I’ll share with you some photos and information about our recent Convention in Canberra.

As always it was great to get away on a 5 day break from the normal day to day family life and spend it with 450+ other women who share the same passion as you. I love Convention and haven’t missed one yet, in fact I’ve already booked accommodation for next year’s Convention which will be held in Brisbane from May 23rd – 25th. Convention to me is not just about the Stampin’ Up Convention but about catching up with fellow demos/friends who you don’t get to see apart from at Convention as you live in different parts of the country or even state. One of these ladies is the lovely Louise Sutton whom I met back in 2009 at the last Canberra Convention and we’ve tried to catch up and have a dinner and drinks almost every Convention since.

Here is Louise and some other lovely ladies we (my travelling buddy & I) spent a lot of time with over the 3 days of Convention.

From left to right we have my good friend, travelling companion, neighbour and fellow demo, Meighan Wheller, then we have Maree Conaghan, Louise Sutton, Leanne Peebles, Michelle Clarke and me on the end.

Another enjoyably part of Convention is swapping. Last year I decided not to make swaps and in the end I was okay with that. I had decided that I wasn’t going to add that extra stress to my life in the lead up to Convention. This year I wanted to do swaps and was hoping to get them done early. Well I still hadn’t got back into the swing of regular creating so in the end I had pretty much decided not to bother again. That was until the Friday night before…..lol. I decided that I would recreate a recent card I’d CASED but change the colours as one of the colours in my original CASED card will be retiring 31st August so with changing the colours the card would be good for at least 12 months instead of 3 months. You can check out my original CASED card here and below is my colour changed Convention Swap card.

We received and exciting announcement about a new product coming into our market soon (available now for demonstrators and next month for customers) with the Stampin’ Up staff doing a little song and dance for us. Convention is so entertaining as you never know what will happen next. This is Brian Pilling, Demonstrator Training Manager from the Home Office, along with Aaron Scott, our Australian Business Development Manager and the Australian Demonstrator Support Team.  Our Demonstrator Support Team also opened the first General Session with a song and dance too but I don’t have any pictures of their performance. They sung our Convention theme song “I Am….”

Of course it wouldn’t be Convention without some wonderful projects created and shared in Demonstrations, Workshop Wows and classes along with displays in our Resource Centre. Here’s just a few of my favourites.

Brian showed us these projects he’d created using the Simply Scored Tool.

How cool are they?

Next up is some wonderful Fabric Projects made by Ruth Clarke. Ruth’s creations recently appeared in the Australian Quilters Companion Issue 55 which I’ve just ordered a back issue of. Ruth had a full table of different projects she’d created using the wonderful Stampin’ Up fabrics available. She’s inspired me to get my fabric and sewing machine out and create something which I hope to get to very soon. I do have more photos of Ruth’s work but I don’t think it’s right to share too much of it here when it’s not my work. Try and grab a copy of the Australian Quilters Companion Issue 55 to see the rest.

And the last photo I’m going to share with you is of this gorgeous creation by Beth Stewart.

When I first saw this Bird Die in our current Autumn/Winter mini ….well I won’t say what I thought…..lol. Let’s just say there was no way I was going to purchase it. I thought it was okay for scrapbookers but as I’m not, it really didn’t interest me at all.

I’ve had a change of heart now and although I still haven’t ordered it, I’m considering it now after Beth ‘wowed’ us with her fantastic ideas. You can check out more of what she shared with us and her other work here.

There was many more fabulous creations and ideas share by fellow demonstrators and Stampin’ Up staff, lots of information on some new changes taking place over the next 18 – 24 months and just some general fun. Convention is a wonderful place to meet new friends and learn lots of new stuff whilst having a blast.

I can’t wait till next year and look forward to catching up with many again and hopefully meet some new friends too.

Till next time…

Off to Convention.

I will be heading off to Canberra for the annual Stampin Up Convention in the morning and can’t wait. I love going each year and haven’t missed one yet.

If anyone purchases my tutorial before Monday you won’t receive it till Monday as I won’t have my laptop with me.

I will be taking my iPad and am hoping to do a little blogging with some updates on what’s happening over the next few days.

I am hoping Convention gets me back to regular creating and blogging. We have a great additional class this year on the Friday night which I so hope we can share with you all as it will be using some new items that will be released in the next Idea Book & Catalogue due out 1st September.

Till next time

Happy Stamping

My Convention Swap

Nikki's Card

When I made this card for my April Stamp-A-Stack class I really liked it so thought I’d adapt it slightly and use a different colour combination (we didn’t know about the Colour Renovation back then) for my Convention swaps.

I decided not to put pressure on myself this year either and limited myself to 50 swaps only. I had them done by early April which was great. One less thing I had to worry about. Normally I’m finishing them off the night before.

The colour combination I used in this card was Rich Razzleberry, Pale Plum and Mellow Moss. As in the past I thought we’d only have Rich Razzleberry until the next new IB&C was released in September, so I decided to change that colour to Elegant Eggplant instead. Unfortunately even though Elegant Eggplant is staying, Pale Plum and Mellow Moss will be leaving us.

This is the finished swap card.

Apart from the colour change I also layered a smaller flower on top of the larger one from Vintage Vogue and used a smaller Clear Rhinestone Brad.

I really liked this colour combination too.

I have a feeling Pale Plum and Mellow Moss will be 2 colours I won’t part with once the Colour Renovation takes place on 1st September. I’m sure we’ll all have a colour or 2 we wish wasn’t leaving us. Make sure you stock up if that’s the case and sooner rather than later so you hopefully don’t miss out.

Till next time……

The past 5 weeks or so…….

Finally the hectic past 5 weeks or so is behind me and things should be at a more manageable level so that I can create and share with you all.

So what’s been going on in my life over the past 5 weeks or so.

I did fill you all in on Lauren’s (my 3rd daughter) birthday back at the beginning of May and shared her party bags. They were a hit and so was the Disco Party. We had a company called Bop Till You Drop come in and do the Disco part and they were fabulous. The lovely young lady, Candice, was amazing with the children. I can highly recommend this company and will definitely use them again if my youngest would like a Disco party sometime within the next couple of years. Go check out their site.

Here’s a couple of photos of Lauren and her friends enjoying themselves.

009        019

That’s Lauren in the centre.

My good friend Meighan and I even got up and danced and I also got ropped into singing with Lauren. I guess I really shouldn’t say ropped in as I did put my hand up and held out ‘pick me, pick me’ but I really didn’t think I’d get picked…..lol.

After Lauren’s party came Convention which was held in Sydney again this year on the 21st & 22nd May. It was a great couple of days as always. I got to put faces to names of some of the demonstrators in Stampin’ Up in Oz which was lovely. I also caught up with some demonstrators from interstate that I only see at Convention. Mind you the first time I saw some of them was in the wee hours of the morning on the first or was it the second fire evacuation from where we were staying. Turned out to be a false alarm but they had to play it safe just wish we weren’t on the top floor (only 13 though) and didn’t have to walk all the way down. I was a bit knackered that first day of Convention and almost fell asleep on Jodene’s shoulder in the last class for the day. Unfortunately I didn’t take any ‘people’ shots myself (busy taking display/sample shots) so I’ve pinched this photo from the lovely Jodene Tripp of our Stampin’ Up in Oz members.

As you can probably see the my weight loss goal I posted earlier in the year hasn’t happened for me yet. I’m in the red top, second from the left……lol   I must however get serious about this as I need to have a public swim suit body for this summer for our family holiday to Fiji…..

The last thing on the agenda after Convention was my 40th Birthday complete with my 1st ever Birthday Party. I tell you I’m not going to wait another 40 years for a party. Hubby is 5 years older than me so I figured we can have a party every 5 years alternating of course. So next up will be his 50th.

Here are the invitations I made.

Birthday Invites

I had decided to order a Cocktail Slushie machine so I thought the Cheers to You set would be appropriate to use on the invites. Do you notice what else I’ve used???

Yes Bold Bright colours…….

My wonderful friend and downline, Katie Halden, had offered to make my Birthday cake as her gift to me. Unfortunately she needed something to work with so I needed to pick a colour theme for my party. I love Blue Topaz and Aquamarine so they of course made me think Tempting Turquoise and then when I went to the party shop they had Tempting Turquoise plates, bowls, cutlery and napkins in the exact same colour. So decision was made. Tempting Turquoise it was and so that’s when I started on the Invitations. The middle cocktail resembles the Midori Alluzion that we had while the left cocktail resembles the Strawberry Daiquiri which was the selection. I know it’s a bit more pink than the actual cocktail was but didn’t think Real Red or Ruby Red would look as good. That ‘40’ stamped image is the only non-SU item I used.

As I mentioned Katie was making my cake so once she had the Tempting Turquoise colour as something to work with she went to work, so to speak. She was concocting something with my eldest daughter in regards to photos and I kept wondering if they were going to do some embarrassing photo slideshow or something but my eldest daughter and husband both assured me it wasn’t and that I would like what they were doing.

So this is what they were up to.

Isn’t it fantastic!!!!

Here’s another picture of my family and I and of course the cake…..

IMG_0266

Don’t you just love how happy some of my girls look……lol. You can never get a nice picture of us with everyone smiling. I’ve learned to live with that. I probably should learn my Photoshop program better and then I can switch out the unsmiling children for another shot of them smiling……  Mind you I think everyone that knows us would realised it must have been Photoshopped……

Back to the cake…..

That film strip around the bottom of the cake is edible and Katie has placed images of things of meaning to me. Of course you should be able to spot the Stampin’ Up! logo there, and all the others are either TV shows that I like, Twilight and New Moon, along with Sex in the City 2 (which I took myself to see on my birthday with a free ticket from Hoyts.. thank you very much) a picture of hubby and our girls and some books I’ve read.

This blew me away to the point that after blowing out the candle I told everyone that even though they wanted cake I just couldn’t cut it…..lol.  I did though so don’t worry everyone got some and it was delicious.

Thank you again so much Katie for both your friendship and your fabulous cake that made my birthday even more special.

On top of this very generous gift from Katie I also received another ‘party’ gift from my wonderful upline and her husband. That would be Marelle & Dave Taylor. Dave owns Mad Balloons so guess what they contributed to making my Birthday Party even more special that just attending.

That’s right…..some balloon decorations. Dave actually arrived earlier in the afternoon to set these up for me and I was flabbergasted.

There were 3 of these

IMG_0254

and then these were on the tables and around the rooms.

IMG_0257

You can’t really tell from the picture but some of these balloons had flashing lights in them.

Notice the slushie machine. Unfortunately I didn’t get to try one out until just before the party started at 6pm. They were yummy…….

Thank you so much Dave & Marelle. You helped make my birthday even more special by making my house look even more like a party was going on.

Here’s another picture of my 3 youngest girls dressed up (make-up and all thanks to their older sister) and guess what they are all smiling……

IMG_0260

To all my wonderful friends who celebrated with me last Saturday. Thank You. You made my night very special and I really appreciate it. I just wish I had of had more time to catch up with some.

Now back to stamping……

I have created a little over the past 5 weeks or so but mainly just my Secret Sister gifts which now that the reveal has taken place I can share with you what I made and sent to her. I also have some more photos to share with you of the items I received from my wonderful partner at Convention.

So over the next few days there should be some more regular posting of creations and with any luck tomorrow I will finally get some crafting time and have more lined up.

Till next time…..
