Petal Pizzazz Birthday

My good friends’ little girl turns 6 years old this Tuesday and yesterday afternoon we celebrated at Lollipops with her. Lollipops is a play centre for children up to 12 years old with lots of climbing equipment, slides, ball play, etc. Great for tiring out those active children….hahaha. Every fortnight they also hold a disco from 6pm which happened to fall on this same day. The party started at 4:30pm and the children had a blast playing on the equipment until they went into the party room at 5pm. They then ate the usual party food, played games, sung Happy Birthday and ate cake and finally they form a chain and follow the birthday girl around the main area of the play centre while she is pulled along in a special cart and at the end they scream out the final ‘Happy Birthday’. Just after the disco started. The disco is actually run by ‘Bop Till You Drop’ which you may recall is the company I hired to do my 3rd daughter, Lauren’s 10th birthday party at home back in May. Lauren loves to sing and dance so of course she made sure she got to sing before we left.

Anyway back to why you have stopped by and that is to see what I’ve created. Obviously with a birthday party to attend we needed a card and I also created matching wrapping paper.

Charlize's 6th Birthday card & gift wrapping

I recently saw a new way (well new to me anyway) of making an opening for the sweet treat cups to remove the contents without damaging the card and wanted to try it out. The large flower from the Petal Pizzazz stamp set is perfect for the Sweet Treat cups so that’s what I’ve used. The colours are really not me as they are too bright, but for a 6 year old I’m sure they are fine.

I love how the wrapping paper turned out. Usually my gifts are too big to create my own paper so it wraps nicely. This gift was just the right size.

Supplies:
Stamp sets: Petal Pizzazz, On Your Birthday
Cardstock: Melon Mambo, Whisper White
Inks: Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise, Rich Razzleberry, Summer Sun
Accessories: 1 3/4” Circle Punch, Large Oval Punch, Sweet Treat cup, sponge dauber, Melon Mambo Polka Dot ribbon.

In case you are wondering about the ‘new way’ I recently discovered of making an opening to remove the Sweet Treat cup contents without damaging the card here’s a photo to show you. I can’t remember the exact blog I saw this on and actually think I saw it in 2 places only days apart so this is by no means my idea just me trying it out.

I’ve cut a door in the back of the cardstock (only cut through 3 sides) and then made a catch using the word window punch which is held in place with a brad. Turn the catch and you can open the back and eat the yummy Skittles…..

This type of opening meant this card was finished in no time…..

Till next time….

Something Sweet + a sneak peek

My youngest daughter’s best friends birthday (boy that’s a mouthful) was on Friday so I was asked to make another ‘lolly’ card. You’ve probably guessed that by that she meant a card using the Sweet Treat cups and of course the coordinating set for that is Something Sweet.

I picked the colours for this card from the Sweet Always DSP but then when creating the card I didn’t really need to use it. Colours are Regal Rose, Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie, Pink Pirouette and Whisper White. Sweet Something 2

To incorporate the Pink Pirouette into the card I decided to add a faux bow using Teneale’s tutorial (which can be found in this post on her site) and Pink Pirouette striped grosgrain ribbon to fill in some of the blank space that would have otherwise been on the bottom of the card. I also used the Pink Pirouette ribbon on my slider. I like to add a slider to these cards so the lollies can be removed without damaging the card. I can hope can’t I??

I wish we had a better colour selection with our M&M’s but as we don’t I kept the colours to the orange and brown. I did try a mixture of the usual colours but it just didn’t look right having yellow, red, green and blue in there too.

It’s so hard buying presents for my own girls these days let alone someone else’s. My girls love receiving money for gifts and being able to go shopping to choose their own things so I decided to do the same for my daughter’s friend too. I didn’t want to just slip the money loosely into the card though so this is where the ‘sneak peek’ comes in.

I’m sure most, if not all of you, have heard by now that in our upcoming Autumn/Winter Mini catalogue released April 1st we will finally have the Big Shot. One of the dies we will also have is the Scallop Envelope which is an SU exclusive die. This die isn’t a big one but you can use it to make some wonderful creations still. As with most creations you are only limited by your own imagination or google searching time…..hahaha.

I decided to use the Scallop Envelope die as an envelope inside this card to tuck some money in. The Level 1 Hostess Paper pack is ideal for the Bigz dies and a great way to use up some of these lovely papers which is what I have used for my envelope as one of the colours in the pack is Regal Rose. This is the end result of the inside of my card complete with Birthday sentiment and one of the lovely sentiments from another Level 1 Hostess item, that being the ‘Best Yet’ stamp set.

M&M Card

Yes that is Chocolate M & M’s I’m talking about. My youngest daughter needed a birthday card for a party she was attending last Saturday so I decided it was about time I used my Sweet Somethings stamp set and the Sweet Treat Cups.

Being that this is the first time I’d used both of these it did take me a little bit of time. I need to use them more so I can get the hang of them I think…..

Seeing how I was using M & M’s and they are reasonably bright in colour…..yes wait for it….. I used Bold Brights colours for the card.

Sweet Somethings 1 full

I didn’t want to put in all this effort (and I’m telling you my first one was) and have the card destroyed getting the M & M’s out so I made a slider so they could be removed easily.

Here’s the finished card complete with M & M’s.

I’ve used Yoyo Yellow as my base (probably the 2nd time I’ve used this colour in 3 1/2 years…hahaha), then I have a layer of Only Orange followed by my top layer of Whisper White. The Gumball machine image has been stamped on a seperate piece of Whisper White using Real Red ink and then cut out and layered using Stampin’ Dimensionals to add that extra 3D effect. The sentiment has been stamped using Tempting Turquoise.

I’m sure you will all realise that the ribbon at the top is to pull the slider up to remove the M & M’s. I’ve used the lovely Real Red Polka Dot ribbon on this.

While creating the slider I realised I didn’t want the card to look plain when the M & M’s where gone so I punched out a piece of Whisper White cardstock using the 1 3/4” circle punch and stamped it using what I’m calling the M & M stamp from the Sweet Somethings stamp set and some bold bright inks.

Of course it doesn’t look as good as filled with actual edible M & M’s but better than a blank card.

And to finish off the inside…..

(Sorry about the white patches I forgot to snap a photo before my daughter wrote in it so I’ve edited the names out)

So did I do okay???? I’m sure with more practice I’ll get quicker at them. Any tips would be appreciated…

Till next time…..

Happy Stamping
