July Workshop Items

These are the items I demonstrated during my July Workshops. The card shown was also the Make & Take that all guests & Hostesses made, which is from a previous class.

This month I demonstrated a different use for the Petal Cone Die, how to create gift boxes and make a perfect size lid every time, and how to use the Labels Collection Framelits to not only layer onto cards but to create a frame and see through window for your boxes.

Here’s a closer look at the Takeout box made using the Petal Cone Die. My regular group of ladies love dies and I always try to show them other ways to use them aside from the traditional use.

I’ve used and image from the Elements of Style stamp set and Versamark Ink to add some interest to the Takeout box. I’ve then finished off the top with the Fun Flowers Die cut out of Baja Breeze and Beau Chateau DSP which is held together with an Antique Brad. I’ve also daubered Soft Suede ink onto the edges of the Flower pieces. The little ribbon tag is from the Petal Cone Die. I’ve stamped a sentiment from Clearly For You, trimmed off the end I didn’t need and daubered in Soft Suede to complete.

I also took along this sample to show them another great use for the die.

This would make a great Party Favour at a child’s birthday party. It’s made using window sheets, some Real Red cardstock, some Big Top Birthday DSP, 2 3/8” Circle Punch and some sherbet lollies. My youngest daughters love the top on this which is just some strips of coordinated cardstock slightly curled and held together with a brad.

The second item I demonstrated was the box made using the new Simply Scored Tool. The trick to making the perfect lid is to create a shim. Check out the online video by Connie Stewart here to make your own shim for the Simply Scored Tool and never worry about your lid not fitting perfectly ever again.

If you watch the tutorial Connie shows you how to make a box & lid using the same size pieces of cardstock. However I like my lids to not come down the whole side of my box so a little of the base shows around the sides.

My base is a piece of cardstock 7” x 7” and I’ve scored all 4 sides at 1 1/2”.

My lid is a pieces of DSP 6” x 6” which I’ve scored at 1” an all for sides using the shim on the edge of the Simply Scored.

This means I have a 4” x 4” box with a 1 1/2” depth with 1/2” of the base showing at the sides.

To make the frame and window in the lid, after I have scored all 4 sides I have them marked my centre spot (so in this case the 3” mark across and down), I’ve then placed the smallest Labels Collection Framelit onto the DSP and centred over my centre mark. Run through the Big Shot. I’ve then adhered a piece of Window Sheet onto the inside just bigger than the window. Next up I placed the smallest Labels Collection Framelit onto some Riding Hood Red cardstock and then added the next sized frame, which is then run through the Big Shot to create the frame. This has been attached using the 2-Way Glue Pen.

I’d made some other boxes while at my July Craft Market which I took along to show the ladies also. These ones I’ve scallop edged.

This trio of boxes is made using the Cheerful Treat DSP which is a Hostess item in the current IB&C. Each box has been made 1” smaller than the previous one and I’ve also decreased the depth measurements too. Normally when I make boxes I have the gift or item to go inside already and my measurements come from that but these were made just to show how easy the Simply Scored Tool makes it to create lovely boxes in minutes. You can dress them up with scalloped edges or another edge punch or leave them plain. You can also add embellishments to the top, ribbon ties, etc. The possibilities are endless.

The final item of course was the Make & Take.

More info on this card can be seen in this post.

Feel free to leave my some comment love so I know you’ve dropped by.

Till next time…..
