I have to admit that I totally missed the Layering Decorative Masks on my first few times looking through the January – June 2022 Mini Catalogue. It’s not really that unusual to miss things especially as our first access is a digitial copy but once we have a paper copy in our hands it’s surprising how many other ‘new’ things you discover. The Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks was one of these items for me.
I recently sat down and played with them. There were a few trials and errors until I worked out what worked best for me. Post-It Notes are a life saver and for me a definite must have to use with these masks. I’m sure baby wipes would be good too but I didn’t have those on hand at the time so the Post-Its saved me.
Here is my end result.
I started with a base card of Evening Evergreen. Next, I embossed a piece of Soft Succulent cardstock using the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder. This was then glued to the card base. I then added a piece of Evening Evergreen Open Weave ribbon using Mini Glue Dots.
My next step was to create the flowers. I’ve used Pale Papaya ink for both layers on the flower creating depth as some parts have double inking. (I hope that makes sense). The ink is applied using Blending Brushes. I then created the leaves using Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen. You can alter the depth of colour depending on how much ink you use on the blending brush and how many times you go over the section. Once I was happy with the image, I fussy cut it with my paper snips.
Next, I die cut a scallop rectangle using Basic White cardstock and the Scalloped Contours Dies. I layered the image onto the die cut using Stampin’ Dimensionals. This piece was then added to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals also.
My sentiment is from the Happy & Heartfelt stamp set, also from the Mini catalogue. I have stamped the image using Versamark ink onto a scrap of Evening Evergreen cardstock which was then heat embossed using white embossing powder. This piece was cut down to size and one end flagged before using Stampin’ Dimensionals to mount to the card.
The final touch was to add some Elegant Faceted Gems.
I also added a little more layered masking to the inside.
